Mind in the Clouds has been my best seller recently. And this month, it can be yours for just 99 cents!
A suspenseful whodunit, where not all the suspects are human.
New psychologist, Dr. Sam “Doc” Price, is excited to be evaluating the training developed for a team. It is, however, a team like no other, because only one of the team members is human; the other is a silent, deadly military drone – the Joint Aerial Combat Capability. Soon, Doc finds himself in a deadly cat and mouse game with an unknown adversary. In a fight for his life and the lives of his friends, Doc asks himself, how do you match wits with the mind in the clouds, when you are not sure if you are facing the cold, exact logic of machine intelligence or the coldblooded urges of a human murderer?

When technology robbed Randy Hutton of his livelihood, did it also claim his mind?
When Randy lost his management job in customer service, his manager described it as Randy being “a victim of technology.” Randy saw it as being ousted by little more than a glorified answering machine. And while Randy might be a victim of technology, his wife, Isabella, was the up-and-coming star at Breakthrough Systems, leading a project that would help artificially intelligent computer systems work with their human counterparts.
As time passes, an evil disembodied voice in Randy's mind makes it clear that he need not look any farther than his wife for his revenge. And as violence begins surrounding Isabella at work, her new friend, Nicole Veles, begins to suspect Randy. But can Nicole confirm her suspicions in time to save Isabella—and herself?

Sue: "I love when a book messes with your brain and keeps you guessing. It’s creepy, smart, and a total ride."Abigail: "A Voice in the Mind is a chilling blend of psychological suspense and near-future tech paranoia that hooked me right from the start."

Packed with action, a “string of unfortunate occurrences,” and an evolving plot that poses death as a solution to problems, the contrast between Nicole’s pragmatic investigative psyche and Isabella’s preoccupation with career that puts both women’s lives in jeopardy makes for a supercharged story of discovery and psychological tension.
A Voice in the Mind represents not just another solid ‘Mind Sleuth’ foray into murder, but a delicate dance between intention, perception, and illusion. - D. Donovan, Sr. Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

Or a minor skirmish anyway.
"I also liked the protagonist ... She’s smart, very determined, but with a softer side to her; as a result, she’s rather likeable."

Psychologist Sam “Doc” Price and his colleagues had always held those principles to be true … at least under normal circumstances. And when they had unraveled its mysteries, the only question that remained was, could they survive the brutal truth?

Yes, I had been in a funk, drifting from job to job, but that all changed when Jones came at me with a gun. And when he, the research lab where I had worked, and the chief scientist all disappeared, I was left with nothing but a piece of mind-blowing technology and a story so bizarre that the police were more concerned about my mental health than the attempted murder. I needed help to understand what I’d gotten myself into. Enter young, beautiful Dr. Diane Stapleton. And when I accidentally involved her in this deadly nightmare, I knew only one thing for sure. I couldn’t let her die.

Here are the Fifteen-Minute Mysteries!
They’re a collection of four short stories that span much of my writing career, from Under the Microscope, the kernel of which I wrote in high school, to Tell Me What I Want to Hear, winner of the St. Louis Writer’s Guild Short Story Contest in 2022.
And for all of you who wonder if artificial intelligence really represents a threat to the creative work of authors, Fifteen-Minute Mysteries also includes a bonus short story written by ChatGPT. It’s a locked room mystery of the ilk of The Murders in the Rue Morgue, a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. I’ve also included two of the four prompts I used (one for each scene), so you have an idea about the questions I posed to ChatGPT.
So, did the AI write garbage or an award winning novel? My take on that question is in the book, but I invite you to be the judge.
This collection is FREE, but only on January 1 and 2, 2025, so get your copy now by clicking HERE
