Dark Crime Fiction in the Past, Present, and Future?

Past and present, OK. Crime noir involves morally ambiguous characters and a focus on the darker aspects of human nature. 

But the future? What are the psychological motivations behind crime in, say, 2068 as in Killer in the Retroscape? As one reviewer put it, “As the mystery unravels, more information about the high-tech world they live in is revealed, some of it good, but some of it very scary.” Dark may be dark, even in the future.
